What is Adipotide?
Adipotide is a peptidomimetic that targets and destroys the blood supply to fat tissue (adipose vasculature). It uses a homing sequence to find blood vessels feeding white fat cells and a proapoptotic sequence to destroy them. Studied for rapid, targeted fat loss in primate models.
Key Benefits & Mechanisms
Targeted fat cell destruction
Rapid fat loss in primate studies
Selective for white adipose tissue
Does not affect other tissues
Significant weight reduction in animal models
Unique mechanism of action
Potential for spot reduction
Research Summary
Adipotide showed dramatic fat loss results in rhesus monkeys (11% body weight in 4 weeks). However, renal toxicity was observed, limiting clinical development. The concept of vascular targeting for fat reduction is novel. Significant safety hurdles remain before human use.
